Poetry By Heart

Poetry By Heart is a poetry speaking programme for schools and colleges. It offers an authentic arts-based approach to oracy, joyful enrichment that includes every child, and a prestigious competition with a Grand Finale at Shakespeare's Globe, London. The programme is supported by free online poetry anthologies, digital CPD and teaching resources. Now in its 14th year, Poetry By Heart is prestigious and practical with proven impact for pupils and teachers, helping schools to build a dynamic culture of oracy. In 2026, 9 out of 10 participating teachers reported that the programme strengthened pupils’ oracy skills. In addition:

• 99% saw improvements in pupils' confidence with poetry

• 95% felt more confident teaching poetry

• 67% said it helped them to develop independent learning

• 62% reported improvements in reading fluency

• 60% said it supported reading for pleasure
